About Solstice

Solstice began in 2014 as a quiet studio in Taipei's Songshan District, founded by a watchmaker who had grown weary of the production-line approach that defined much of the industry at the time. The vision was simple: create a space where each timepiece could receive the consideration it deserved, where restoration meant understanding both the mechanical intricacies and the personal stories these watches carry.

The name Solstice reflects our philosophy—marking moments of transition, of careful attention to cycles and rhythms, of respecting both tradition and the passage of time. Just as the solstice represents a turning point in the year, we view each service as a meaningful pause in a watch's journey, an opportunity to renew its purpose while honoring its history.

Over the past twelve years, we have refined our processes not by chasing volume, but by deepening our understanding of the craft. We have worked with vintage Omegas passed down through three generations, Seikos that marked career milestones, Rolexes that accompanied explorers to remote corners of the world. Each piece teaches us something about resilience, about the relationship between humans and their instruments.

Our mission remains unchanged: to provide watch repair and restoration services that balance technical precision with genuine care for the objects entrusted to us. We do not claim to be the fastest or the largest. We simply aim to be thorough, transparent, and respectful of the craftsmanship embedded in these small mechanical universes.

The studio operates with a small team of specialists who share a commitment to traditional horological practices. We document our work, communicate clearly about timelines and costs, and never rush a repair to meet arbitrary deadlines. If a component requires replacement, we discuss options openly. If a restoration calls for restraint rather than intervention, we say so.

We believe in preserving the character of vintage timepieces rather than erasing the marks of their lived experience. Original parts, when available, are always preferred. Patina is valued, not polished away. Our role is to restore function and ensure longevity, not to manufacture perfection that never existed.

Privacy Protection

Client information and service records are maintained with strict confidentiality. Your timepieces are secured in our climate-controlled vault during service.

Our expertise extends across a broad spectrum of mechanical timepiece maintenance and restoration. We work primarily with Swiss and Japanese movements, though our capabilities include servicing of certain German and American calibers as well. The studio is equipped with specialized tools for movement disassembly, ultrasonic cleaning, timing regulation, and water resistance testing.

We maintain relationships with component suppliers across Asia and Europe, enabling us to source parts for both contemporary production models and discontinued vintage references. When original components are unavailable, we work with skilled fabricators who can produce accurate replacements using traditional machining methods.

The workshop environment is controlled for temperature and humidity, protecting delicate mechanisms from environmental stress during service. Each watchmaker's bench is equipped with anti-magnetic workspaces, precision measurement instruments, and appropriate lubrication stocks for different caliber families.

Our approach prioritizes longevity over cosmetic perfection. We understand that many of our clients value the history visible in their watches—the slight fading of a dial, the gentle wear on a case edge. These markers of time are part of what makes a timepiece meaningful. Our goal is to ensure these watches continue functioning reliably for another generation while respecting the character they have developed.
